Book of Now

A year in visual poems

What could visual poems look like? It’s the idea of capturing a moment using more than just words—feelings portrayed through a set of illustrations.

The Book of Now consists of eight haiku that show all the seasons of a year. While each illustrator brings their personal interpretation and materials to the table, the nature theme and structure unify the book. It’s truly a collaboration of textual and visual moments.

Making the Book

Eight talented illustrators, using a variety of materials, breathe life into haiku poems, uniting them for a mindful year.

What minimal text could elevate this moment in time? Something visual, connected to nature, and fun? The answer is clear—it’s a haiku! A haiku is the ideal fit for this project, and that’s how the poems became the backbone for our illustrations. The illustrators received descriptions for their three illustrations that would form the visual poem. The illustrators were free to choose their own materials, interpretation, and style.

The team

The Book of Now began as a small project but has flourished with each collaboration. This international project is made possible by a talented haiku writer, eight (semi-)amateur illustrators, and a creative director/curator. We live in different counties such as: Scotland, the Netherlands, Belgium and Serbia. Book of Now provides a unique opportunity for creative individuals to see their art in print.

The planning

The book is released October 5, 2024! We soon share more about our book presentation.
