Our goal is to make fashion that is both beautiful and sustainable and contributes to a circular economy.
Authentic kimonos are among the most beautiful garments in the world, so it would be a shame not to wear them. Wear them as vintage clothing or upcycle these exquisite fabrics into new clothing. By doing so, they can continue to offer value and beauty.
Authenticity and handmade
Authenticity plays the most important for Koneko.
For instance, we handpick a curated selection of vintage Kimonos and Haori, which are imported. Equally important, our remade clothing is handmade. We hope that you will also love this sustainable option for authentic wearable kimono fabrics.
Asian inspired
Koneko is based on the visual and cultural aesthetics of Japan as well as other Asian regions.
Although located in the Netherlands and raised in an Western culture, there is something profoundly appealing about the East Asian culture. Indeed, we channels this passion in our products. We respect the best in cultures, and feedback is always welcome.
How it all started with Yōkai (supernatural entities)
As long as they can remember, You-et has enjoyed being creative. Nothing was off-limits, from drawing and crafting to sculpting and sewing. Not only the materials but also the identity developed. They experimented with minimalist, fantasy, and elegant forms in creating their own style.
As a young teenager, the film Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi) made a significant impression on You-et. They thereafter explored more and more of the Japanese and Korean culture. As a result, You-et learned about composition through Ikebana, developed patience with Shodō, appreciated natural beauty through Japanese Gardens, and understood symbolism through Kimono.
